JA BizTown
A Place Where You Will
Be In Charge Of A City For A Day!
Imagine seeing fifth graders rushing to the bank to deposit their paycheck. Then, they’re off to the restaurant for something to eat. Finally, they stop at one of the retail stores and write a check from their checkbook to make a purchase.
Junior Achievement’s BizTown program teaches students in grades four through six about job readiness, teamwork and finances. Students complete a curriculum taught by their classroom teachers, then it’s off to the new Mericle Family Center for Enterprise Education where they will run the city for a day. Students have jobs and receive paychecks. They will be consumers as they make purchases with their hard earned dollars, and they will have an opportunity to vote and make charitable contributions if they like. Through this program, students will develop a positive attitude toward the free enterprise system, personal economics, and the importance of education for their future success.
